In accordance with the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. What’s more, this information is publicly available on WHOIS lookup web sites and while this may not be a problem for companies, it may not be very convenient for individuals, because everybody can view their names and their personal postal and email addresses, especially in times when identity fraud is not that atypical. For this reason, registrar companies have come up with a service that hides the details of their customers without editing them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. If it’s activated, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS enquiry. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it’s still impossible to conceal your personal info with certain country-code extensions.
Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting
Enabling the Whois Privacy Protection service for any domain registered with us is surprisingly easy if you have a Linux shared service. You can achieve this through the very same Hepsia Control Panel, via which you manage the web hosting account – you will just need to go to the Registered Domains section where all your domains will be displayed and to click the “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will be available for each domain name that supports the Whois Privacy Protection service. This is also the place where you can renew the service or disable it altogether – in case you would like to transfer a particular domain name to some other registrar. With our Whois Privacy Protection service, you can conceal your personal or business contact details with only several clicks of the mouse and stop worrying that your details might be obtained by unauthorized individuals.
Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you have a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can add our Whois Privacy Protection service without any difficulty. This requires just a few mouse clicks in the Hepsia Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you manage everything related to your semi-dedicated account. This is the place where you can see all your registered domain names and for each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, using which you can activate, renew or deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-code top-level domain name extensions that support this option and you will be able to see this beforehand, so you will not end up requesting a service that we can’t provide.
